SEAI home charger grant
SEAI currently states that eligible applicants can claim up to €300 towards purchasing and installing a home charger. The scheme supports eligible smart chargers and requires a Safe Electric Registered Electrical Contractor.

How much does a home EV charger installation cost?
Cost depends on the charger, cable route, distance from the fuse board, electrical capacity, mounting arrangement and any additional upgrade work. A property assessment is needed for an accurate quotation.
Can any electrician install an EV charger?
Electrical work should be completed by a competent Registered Electrical Contractor. The SEAI home charger grant specifically requires a Safe Electric Registered Electrical Contractor.
Do I need an EV before applying for the home charger grant?
SEAI currently states that homeowners may apply whether or not they already own an electric vehicle. Confirm current eligibility directly with SEAI before proceeding.
Can I install the charger before grant approval?
No if you intend to claim the grant. SEAI states that work completed before a grant offer is issued is ineligible.
Will I need a fuse-board or supply upgrade?
Not every home does. The existing installation, protective equipment, available capacity and other electrical loads must be assessed.
Can a charger be fitted at an apartment?
Apartments and multi-unit developments often require management-company approval and may fall under the separate SEAI apartment charging route.
